Final stop was The Phoenix, an irish pub to round off an excellent evening in Luton. Football on the TV and the pub was rammed. We settled at the back to play pool and were joined by some locals, a fella on the town with three ladies in tow. One joined for the photo outside.
Great atmosphere and loads of locals made us feel very welcome. Mert and Jamie had to sprint to get their train back to London and the Hertfordshire boys stayed on for another round.
We’ve now visited Luton twice, yet still feel we’ve only scratched the surface. Once famed for its hat making, Luton has suffered from industrial decline with Vauxhall binning them off. Its now more infamous for its production of both radical islam extremists and right-wing neo-nazis. Yet from where we were standing, Luton still seemed pretty great.
