Picture the scene, its the 1930s, little kids are running along the street using a stick to roll one of those little hoops, horse and carriages rush by, probably some marker traders making a racket, and amongst it all the first brick was being lay, for what was to become an icon of Walworth Road. The Red Lion was being built.
Fastforward 95 years and we are in here again drinking pints and sharing a giant flump. The place was full with generally an older crowd, a barmaid working tirelessly to ensure all thirsts are quenched and an excitable atmosphere at 6pm on a Thursday.
Second time we have visited the Red Lion on Pub Sessions, the first back in October 2018 when they had a job lot of Sports Direct pint glasses and every pint was served in one.
Very large pub and apparently half the size it would have been back in the 1930s. It did make us ponder, would any of these weathered faces have been there on the momentous day the first brick was placed, though we quickly conclude that was almost certainly impossible.
Toddler joined for the photo outside. On to the next!
