Not ones to dwell we moved onwards and upwards and found ourselves at The George IV. What a different reception. The landlady was extremely helpful and friendly. Big on community this one. She was keeping an eye on an old fella with dementia til his son collected him. A ladies darts team arrived whilst we were there and they even had a 5s board in the back. BT Sport and Sky Sports available and good group of locals were filling the place to watch football as we left for the next pub. @_the_george_iv

Holy Moly Miss Molly, The George IV (@_the_george_iv). How could we forget. First visited in 2019, we crossed the A205, navigated alleyways and the maze of the Charles Gringling Walk and we were back baby.
A womens darts team were having some sort of event and the place was electric. A lone gent watched a 2015 rerun of Liverpool vs Man Utd on the TV. We were safe. Pints all round and when the landlady got wind of Jamie and Jak’s birthdays it was game over.
We were plyed with mini cheddars, vodka jellies and tequila rosé before a chocolate gateau and 4 big spoons arrived.
We were in heaven, our prayers had been answered and then some. To top it off we went behind the bar for a picture at the end.
As previously mentioned, these places need custom, some more than others so go and make a day of it. The Elizabeth Line has made Woolwich so accessible though with that, it brings the prospect of further change for the area and more importantly its local pubs. How many will be as they were in 5 years time? We were hit with 5 closed pubs yesterday which tells the story.
So get down there and make the most of it while you still can. We suggest ending at The George as they know how to throw a party and can imagine it’d be great crack on a Saturday night. We will be seeing this place again, I’m sure of it.

Gold 2022

Gold 2022 - The George IV (@_the_george_iv) in Woolwich. A man with a dog shouted from across the street, “Its been closed for months lads”. Gutted, the gold award unable to be delivered - the first time since 2016 when The Tarmon on Cally Road was inexplicably shut.
We had been to the George twice on Sessions, the second occasion being in June this year. Our previous post explains why it got such a high score (the highest score ever), yet like many other great pubs in Woolwich it has closed down. We have no information so if anyone can shed light on whats happening we’d love to know. We went on to The Lord Raglan which was also shut and have since learned the landlord sadly passed away three or so weeks ago. We really hope that reopens as it was kept exceptionally well. Honourable mention to the Fox and Hounds around the corner which took us in and kept the festivities going. Get down to Woolwich and keep those that are left going as you never know when you could lose them.
Merry Xmas everyone - to more pubs and pints in 2023 ❤️
