April sessions started in what felt like the end of the world. North Woolwich. After getting off at King George IV station and trundling through an estate and park we found the Henley Arms. Named after William Thomas Henley, famous for manufacture of telegraph cables and had a factory round the corner from this pub. I had heard a story that the landlord took down the newer door sign to reveal the older, more tatty one, to annoy the building developers across the road but can’t find evidence of this. A mysterious man in a yellow shirt adorns the sign outside and the bar hoarding. Anyone know who he is?
