Next up, just a few doors down from the Red Lion is the Leytonstone Social (Ex-Servicemens Club) and what a gem it was.
A members club but open to non-member visitors - Cheap beers, a local crowd of all ages, music and dart events and charity collections all under one roof, and all happening last night! The place was getting busier and a band were soundchecking upstairs. Downstairs, they were getting ready for a darts night with a spread laid out on the table. Many of the old gents were in suits and ties, and not because they’d just done a shift down Canary Wharf, its just what they wore to socialise. Decorum.
It felt like a home away from home and we were very comfortable, treating ourselves to a second pint. Pictures of the King adorned the walls alongside east London memorabilia. We unfortunately couldn’t stay to watch the band or darts as we had a date with a dejected Arsenal team.
We could only imagine how rocking this place would get on a weekend and I have a feeling we may be back to witness it 🤞🏼
