Likely saving the best til last, a well known stalwart in East London pub going, following a little wander toward Leyton, we arrived at The Birkbeck Tavern.
Decorations were up as they prepared for the Leyton Orient League 2 Champions party this weekend and the upcoming Kings Coronation. Balloons, flags, bunting, lights and lifesize cut outs of Charles and Camilla adorned the stage ready for the action.
The landlady has a new puppy who was a joy to drink with. She advised against the wray and nephew shots we suggested and we settled on a trio of tequilas followed by trio of something else and I cannot recall at all what it was. Landlady also crossed our palms with silver (a quid) when asked for change for the jukebox, great hosting. Atmosphere was buzzing already and we wacked on some Roxette to keep everyone smiling.
6 rounds of quiz games with shots and we were well and truly finished. Jamie and Martin rounded off the evening with a loud argument over the value of the monarchy. We love the Birkbeck Tavern.
Thats it for this month. What a fantastic sessions with a variety of pubs, clubs and restaurants to look back on. I think we’ll be seeing a few of them again.
Gold 2023 · Christmas Special
Gold 2023
The 2023 winner securing the Gold Award was the omnipotent Birkbeck Arms in Leyton. Unfortunately this was the final pub of the night and at some point between Cally Road and Leyton we lost the box containing the gold certificate (likely somewhere in Tottenham). Incredibly that was the first time this had ever happened. The place had a new landlady though no changes to the incredible atmosphere. Get down here, no excuses, it has it all.
So thats it for another year, for those who missed it, the 2023 xmas sessions highlights are available showing the full route now.
Merry Xmas to you all. Have a great day today and we'll see you in 2024 for more pub sessions x
