Lock up your daughters! Pub Sessions are in Plumstead! First on the agenda, the magnificent Plumstead Radical Club, a CIU members club which none of us are members of, however a quick flash of Jamie’s Hoe Street Club CIU Membership and the barlady is more than happy to exchange our north of the river silver, for the club’s home brew.
Landlady gave Jamie and Mert the history of the club which has existed since 1892, still thriving today with an over 18s lounge, pool hall, snooker hall downstairs, family area, horse racing tv for the locals and something quite raucous going on upstairs. Cookie arrived and asked what the commotion was, sounded like they had stables up there, though the mystery was soon solved - kids’ irish dance practice was on.
We could not believe our luck, incredible building and incredible community keeping this place going - it’s not existing it’s thriving. All elements of the club alive on a beautiful evening in SE18.
We had 5 more establishments to ply our trade so we bid farewell after two pints though will most certainly return.
