Literally across the road from The Lighterman is the Curzon Centre, a social club for members, not associated with the CIU though happy to invite us in for a mere £2 fee. Incredible place, enormous, multi roomed venue of which we likely only made our way around half of it. Cash only though this was not our first rodeo, so we were well equipped.
Peterborough kit on the wall in ode to local lad, Jack Baldwin, who made over 100 appearances for the club, now of Hornchurch FC.
The car park outside had 3 limousines, all of which appeared to be undergoing maintenance.
Beer garden with a horse and carriage ornament and our old mate whose fortunes seemed down in the lighterman, was trying to turn them around on the fruity as we left.
Large poppy adorning the exterior was a nice touch.
This place felt like it belonged to the community - with an older lady behind the bar, coupla old fellas at the bar in silence and few groups of ladies dotted around the large main room enjoying a drink after a long day.
Absolutely stunning.
Music from Barking born, Brian Poole and The Tremeloes, famed for Do You Love Me and Twist and Shout, though this seemed more fitting.
