What a place. Looks very much like they’ve turned an old shop into a pub. Salt of the earth boozer wearing its heart on its sleeve. We were welcomed by Pam (pictured) and a pissed up scouser at the bar who kept telling us “Fill your boots, its so cheap here” as he drank his bottle of red wine. With no draft we opted for a round of Holsten Pils cans, a couple of Palm Drinks (Ghanian smirnoff ice) and some beer nuts. £2.30 a Holsten wasn’t bad at all. The place had wooden beams dotted around which made it more pub like but was very unusual. Mix between a kitchen, pub and laundrette. Very friendly folk though and Pam and her mate jumped in the photo outside. If you’re in Croydon pop in for a can and see the wonders of The Phoenix.

Third place this year is The Phoenix in Croydon. Landlord recalled our initial visit where Pam was serving. He was very happy with the award and said “that’ll put the cat amongst the pigeons” in regard to the other Croydon pubs. 4 beers for under a tenner and lovely bartenders and clientele🥉
