McGovern’s was just 5 doors down the road and was a slightly more upmarket affair. The bairmaids had branded McGovern’s polo shirts and the place had been redone what looked like recently. Still had its old contingent in there which was great to see. Barmaids were a laugh and were happy to provide the Smirnoff Ice unopened for Kenzie to be iced (slide it in their pocket and say “You’ve been iced”, they need to then neck it). Battered scouse woman trying to make friends with an uninterested Hungarian couple in the beer garden. Tayto Snax which I’d not seen before.

This place is Irish with a capital ‘Oi’ – all the usual trappings and packed to the rafters. Traditional folk band were on the stage bringing the vibes and we were told to halt our game of darts when one of the old boys in the corner launched into a touching encore – think the scene in the Royle Family when Joe spontaneously starts singing at the end of Jim’s banjo set. Lovely to see the vibrancy of the place and, as is customary for Sessions IG posts, I can’t tell you much more than that as the Guinness was kicking in by this point. Sessions first enjoyed a visit here back in 2019.
